This charming little inn was our home base while in the Cape Town area. We opted to be away from downtown Cape Town and preferred a much more relaxing environment during our visit – hence our decision to stay inside the quaint Kalk Bay city. With the property located on a hill, we had epic views of Kalk Bay and we were within walking distance of the pier and some great nearby eateries.
Our room was not located on the main area of the Guest house, but just across the way inside one of the cottages. We felt that our room was nice and tidy and a great size to accommodate two large suitcases that held four weeks worth of clothing while we were on our holiday. The comfort rooms were clean. However, the shower/tub area has no privacy curtains. There were privacy walls surrounding the property so we weren’t too concerned. Also once you start your shower, the steam will fog the windows up fairly quickly.
The breakfasts were amazing. We didn’t think we would eat there every day during our stay, but we did. We loved the planning out our day sitting on the patio, sipping on our fresh coffees, eating the plethora of cheeses, breads, and meats while waiting for our main breakfast. Our view of the bay really made our breakfasts that much more enjoyable.
Parking was a pain on Gatesville since the guest house had no parking lot on the premises – street parking only. Not sure if we were just lucky, but after circling around 1-2 times we always found a spot.
Distances from Key Places:
One of the great things about staying in Kalk Bay and our main reason for staying at Chartfield was because it was really in the middle of everything. We loved how we were between the Cape of Good Hope, Simon’s Town, and Table Mountain (approximately 30 min drive).
We had no complaints about our time in Chartfield. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were great, and the views were spot on. If the wind ever blows us over to the Cape once again, we will be sure to stay at Chartfield.
