Spontaneously traveling to Japan during Sakura season made it super difficult to find a traditional ryokan. So we decided to go with the next best thing and book a room at the Hotel Fukudaya Ryokan.
What we loved the most from our one-night stay is the fact that this place was easily accessible from the Shibuya Station – it was about a 10-15 minute walk and not too hard to find. Front desk staff was super friendly and spoke English as well. Since we arrived prior to our check in time, the staff allowed us to drop our bags off while went to meet some of our friends in the area.
Our room was a private room which included a bath.We believe some of the rooms come with shared baths (hostel style). It’s not the InterContinental hotel, but its clean and it was fairly affordable. Hopefully the next time we visit Japan we have the opportunity to stay inside a tradional ryokan – but we guess this ryokan styled motel room will have to do for now.
Some things to note:
- You leave your shoes at the the door and store them in a cubby.
- Make sure you are back from your nightly activities by 11:30pm or else you cannot enter until the next morning.
